Waxed!

Okay it's not the same thing but often I felt I could have used a product like this on the hair growing on my top lip. I have been unhappy about the quantity of hair on my upper lip for as long as I can remember. I have been pondering electrolysis for years but it's expensive and I knew it would mean 2 or 3 or more visits to kill all the hair at the root and there was the risk of scaring I wasn't pleased about either.

I decided it was time to check out the new hairdresser yesterday because A was starting to look more like a shaggy puppy than a little boy. K and M were both being snots so just A and I made the short walk in the lovely warm sunshine to see if we could book an appointment with the new hairdresser. We've been forced to find a new hairdresser because our old one is now under new management and hiked their prices thru the dang roof. I refuse to pay for a shampoo and cut on myself and three kids when all we normally need is just a trim and we leave.

As luck would have it D's next appointment hadn't shown and she was able to cut A's hair right away(thank goodness no more shaggy puppy - although he did ask for a Mohawk *lol*) and I asked if she would have time to fix the hack job I did on my bangs and shorten the rest of my hair for me. She was in the process of doing that when she let me know not to shave my mustache(it is always at it's most obvious this time of year when I am super white and my hair is black) because if I ever did it would grow back and I would end up shaving everyday like a man. Un-offended I told her I knew that and had been thinking of electrolysis for years but just hadn't gotten to it yet - mostly due to expense. She said waxing was way cheaper and why not do that, her wax was right there and already hot $6 and I would be hairy lip free. I thought or a moment and said "Okay, lets do it! I'm sick of the damn thing."

Shortly it was all done ... was it painful? Yes of course it was, I had a fair amount of hair on my upper lip(think teen boy just getting his mustache for the first time ... yeah ... ugh right?) and it was all ripped out by the roots. It is a small area though and it wasn't that bad and I feel it was totally worth it to not have the hair there anymore.

So I have to call and book an appointment for the girls next to get their hair cut but I like the new lady a lot. All these years I don't remember a single hairdresser suggesting I have my lip waxed even when I mentioned the fact that I was hairy and disliked it. I'm in my mid 30s now and feel like a little sprucing up may be in order. All these years I have felt self conscious about all that hair, now it's gone. I'm so happy!

Things I learned today ...

Yup, they say you learn something new everyday ... I seem to have to re-learn stuff.

1. M is bored, I know this because she peed on the floor again today.

2. There was a can of Comet under the kitchen sink ...

3. M found a way to amuse herself(see #2), she emptied the entire can of Comet onto the living room rug.

4. You can't vacuum up Comet with a vacuum that has a HEPA filter(thank goodness mine is washable!) it clogs instantly.

5. It takes 45 minutes to haul a 8X10 area rug outside, hang it over a fence, beat Comet out of it, sweep in the living room, try not to take the stick you found to beat the carpet to you 3 year old, and haul said carpet back into the house.

6. After 45 minutes of cleaning up the mess your 3 year old did and then making lunch for everyone your 11 year old looks at the carpet in the living room and says "I'm not even going to ask..." when she comes home from school ... lesson there? I have a very smart 11 year old.

7. 11 year old daughters give very nice hugs when you are tired out from cleaning up 3 year old daughter's messes.

8. 6 year old sons don't notice anything.

9. M gives very good snuggles once I was willing to have her within 5' of me and I forgive her, of course.

Main lesson learned: DON'T LEAVE M ALONE UPSTAIRS!!!

Why do I have to keep learning this one? ... makes me miss the day she dumped an entire bag of oatmeal on the living room carpet ...

I can fight it ... *sigh*

Mr. Giraffe over here is my picture of this post. I am fighting something, probably another infection in my tonsils by the feel of it. My tonsils are a little swollen, enough to make swallowing a little unpleasant and causing me to snore like a buzz saw at night which wakes me up :( Now that same tenderness has moved into my right jaw joint which makes chewing a little unpleasant. I keep getting these nagging not-quite-but-almost headaches and neckaches as well. *sigh* I want to go to the Y and workout but as long as I feel like I'm fighting something off I don't think it's a good idea to overexert myself ... am I wrong? I don't feel ill enough to go to the doctor and don't want to take another course of antibiotics if my body can fight this on it's own.

Ah well, M is fighting off some sniffles and I get to go shopping with my Mom this afternoon because she got her income tax return in(she got way more back than J & I) and wants to buy some belated Easter stuff for the kids and knows I don't want more candy in the house. I like going out with my Mom and I'm hoping the outing with her will make me feel better than the outing I had with M this morning(during which I bought shoes for M & A) in the rain, Yick! I'll see about getting some new clothes for the kids(I'm thinking raincoats all around, really) and hanging out with my Mom *grin*. It's all good.

Wow, I did a lot today!

It might not seem a lot to anyone else and I'm not sure how much it shows(other than to me in my happy little soul) but I did get a lot done.

I got all my morning chores done and I went through the pantry and tossed a bunch of stuff into the composter that had been in there for years. Took everything off each shelf and wiped them down, organized the spices again and just tidied. Looks way better in there now and I know exactly what we have!

I was chatting on the phone a lot this morning so I got tons more done. I only have three loads of laundry in the house now and I also went through my cleaning closet and tossed out a bunch of stuff from there that we didn't need/had gone bad/I never use. Now I know what I have in there as well(more than I thought).

I'm just finishing my baking of two loaves of bread and I made the kids lunch and tidied up after that and M is sleeping now*does happy dance* in a little while I have to go back up and run the vacuum through and then I am done until I have to make supper*does another happy dance*.

I'm on two weeks now of Flying again and if I can just keep up for another 2 or 3 it just may become a habit. Thanks to my good friends for listening to me gush about how happy and domestic I am even though I'm sure it makes you want to gag sometimes, I love you, you know who you are.

Happy Easter - let the sugar high begin!

Now we didn't get the kids anything nearly as adorable as this picture of a chocolate bunny I found online but it still gets the idea across so I'm happy :)

J took the time and picked up Easter candy for K, A, & M yesterday and got up early to make sure the kids woke up to their treats(well except for K who is away - she'll find hers when she gets back).

Later we will have a ham dinner but otherwise that's pretty much it for our celebration of Easter ... we're very secular in our house.

I will also bring out some toys from storage as well since J also got both A & M small toys as well that reminded me of toys they have asked for(in M's case) or that they just have(in A's case). These will be the first toys removed from storage since my toy purge and I have heard pretty much no complaints since I did so. In fact the kids play more together now and spend more time with J & I than before. I really think I'm onto something here. Less is better after all and the kids don't even miss all the toys they had. Who knew?

Have a happy Easter everyone!

A Zen day ... Flying high :)

No I haven't embraced my inner hippy and started smoking pot. I'm just tripping on how well my day went today even though lots of stuff didn't go as planned.

I started the day by sleeping in because I was tired from M getting me up during the night. I got up at 6:45am and grabbed a shower. Then I got dressed, made a tea and went on the computer for a few minutes.

At 7:10am I got the kids up, told K she had to shower because she was leaving for her grandparent's for the weekend and put out the garbage(including a bag of stuff I gathered last minute from the backyard). Also please note it was snowing ... in April*sigh* gotta love a Canadian spring.

I ran thru my morning routine fairly quickly and sent A & K off to school. Then I finished the paperwork I needed to do for A's pediatrician and spent some time on the phone with my good friend C(who's morning wasn't going quite so smoothly) . I made up our menu for the week as well as the grocery list to go with it, that I later e-mailed to J. While I was doing the menu K's grandfather called to ask if they could get K earlier because of the weather and we moved their pick up from 4pm to 1pm.

I remembered to call in my prescription for a refill to be delivered.

By then is was pushing lunchtime but I squeezed in a half-hour of computer time before I had to cook. While we were eating lunch I debated keeping the kids home for the afternoon since we kept getting snow squalls but decided to send K with A to get him to school, she then came back to wait for her grandparents. Also while we were eating lunch another friend of mine called and regretfully canceled her play date for the afternoon, which was cool and went over all right.

At 1pm my prescription was delivered and shortly after that K's grandparents arrived to take her for the weekend.

Once she was gone I decided the best way to combat my general feeling of tiredness and headache was to take a short nap. M wasn't interested in a nap so I made as sure as I could be that she wasn't going to make a huge mess and went to lay down.

I woke a 1/2 hour later feeling much better and all M had gotten into were some old pictures. Shortly after I woke up the school called to tell me A needed a change of pants(he mistook a poop for a toot and ... well ... you get the idea). I told them I would just take him home after that then since it was very close to dismissal time anyway.

On the way home we stopped at my friend C's as she had asked me to(a little early) and had a short visit before heading home.

I got home and started setting up for supper and waiting for J to get home with the groceries. When he did we quickly had everything put away and were soon sitting down to chat while supper cooked. J had had a fairly stressful day and I told him about my 'nothing goes as planned' day that was surprisingly not stressful at all.

We talked more about the puppy an decided that we actually can't afford one this year. Maybe next year. I'm good with that and actually suggested it last week. I'm sure the kids will be a little sad but I feel that it shows more respect to Sammy's passing than getting one so soon. We still miss him a lot.

I am still in shock at how well my re-implemented Flying is going. My stress levels are way down, I dealt gracefully and cheerfully with all the changes that happened today and I just feel so darn good. This is great.

No Way!!

I'm in shock. Complete and utter shock. I only have three loads of laundry left in the house!!! Only another Mom can understand the depth of my amazement.

This all started innocently enough, I was putting away more laundry(a blanket, some sheets and some clothes of A's). Whenever I put laundry away I always refill the baskets with dirty laundry. So that was first thing I did ... I emptied A's laundry hamper. I still had another empty basket so I went looking in the girls room for more and there was none! "Well I'm sure there's more of J and I's laundry downstairs. Now I'll have a basket for it." But there wasn't any, our hamper is empty as well!!!

So right now I have a load in the dryer ready to be folded, load in the washer ready to go in the dryer and a load ready to go into the washer. That's it! Pardon me while I run around the house cheering ... *runs off cheering loudly*
